going to the gun show tommorow (north atlanta) with one difference from the last times. Im finally 21! So I can finally start looking hard for a pistol. I dont know if I will buy tommorow, but am going prepared.

I was planning on looking at XDs, P99s, maybe 1911s. Any others you would recommend me looking at? budget is ~5-600 tops (college student) medium hand, prefer in 9mm for cost.

    CPO Sig 226/229
maybe a Kahr P9/K9 (if it might be for carry eventually)

.............maybe even a Belgium Browning Hi Power if you can find a good deal on one, VERY nice guns.

I cannot carry at work, against company policy. However I am going to apply for my CC permit to have if a need arises.

I park at marta (rail system) and ride it 45mins to work. I may keep a gun in there, but am reluctant to due to it being so far away all day. Wouldn't do me much good if something happened in/around work

Ahh, I see. Yeah, I dont know how I would feel about leaving my gun in my car and being that far away for a whole work day.

For a first gun, in 9mm, with your budget, this choice cannot be beaten.

I'd look for stuff you want that's likely to be banned soon, but that's just me.

Ended up picking up a ruger mkii 22/45, only decent deal I found. They are fun to plink with...

Other than that, ammo prices sucked, walmart is better and there wasnt a lot of F2F that I saw.

Hey vettefan, you know of any good gun shows near our area, the eastman ones suck?

$220, it may have 50 rounds through it, but still had all the toys.

    All the others were 260+

Unfortunatly it seems to be the norm for the atlanta shows...

all atlanta gun shows suck. dealers always sell their shitty ass shotguns, ak's are overpriced, ar's are overpriced, everything in between is overpriced too. i dont think im going to go to anymore, its just not worth the time and then the 7 bucks to get it. it should be FREE to get in.

My uncle that I usually go with knows the guy that runs it, and I have never heard him mention him without a 4 letter word or two in front of it.
The other problem is apparently there are serveral dealers who have been telling people the F2F selling is illegal, that you can only sell to dealers, hence the lack of people selling individually.

just one more reason why i will not buy from a dealer. they are complete scum.

Speaking of overpriced AKs. I went to a gun shop in my town a few days ago. The guy wanted 550 for a beat up WASR-10. Ended up leaving with a box of Aguila .22 SSS ammo. Pretty decent stuff.
