    joke's on you, canadians.

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2009/09/22/guns-toronto-seized-police523.html

Toronto police have seized almost 400 firearms with lapsed registrations in a six-month push aimed at reducing the number of guns on the city's streets.
In March, officers began soliciting people who owned firearms once registered across the city as part of what they call the Safe City Project. Many of those who had to surrender their firearms had either let their registrations lapse, or had stashed their guns improperly under beds or in closets.

As a California resident, you are not allowed to laugh at this. You may give a sad chuckle or a wry smile. Should you fail to choose, the government will choose for you and you will be required to carry it out or face re-education at the hands of the governator.

    uh, no.

#26 How do I know if my firearms need to be registered?

There is no firearm registration requirement in California except for assault weapon owners and personal handgun importers. However, you may submit a Firearm Ownership Record to the DOJ for any firearm you own. Having a Firearm Ownership Record on file with the DOJ may help in the return of your firearm if it is lost or stolen. With very few and specific exceptions, all firearm transactions must be conducted through a firearms dealer.

My bad, I meant .50BMG. Those need to be registered like an AW, I believe.

And there is still licensing for handguns if you bring them from out of state...so there is still handgun registration. Althought it is better than having outright registration, it still qualifies as such in my mind.

I don't understand how people can think a list of firearm owners and what they own could be used for anything else... :dunno:

honestly, from the perspective of Californians, a new registration for "assault weapons" might be warmly received.

if they told us tomorrow that if we register our AR and AK style rifles we would be able to use them without all the bullet buttons and monsterman grips, i think a lot of people would do it.

    :dunno: its just about perspective.

hopefully i'm not alone and the government will stay away from us knowing we'll take to the rooftops before giving up our 2nd amendment rights

i might register one, just so i could use it freely :dunno: i really do think lot of firearm owners in CA would strongly consider it.

i certainly wouldnt register everything i owned.

we dont have a second amendment that gives us the right to bear arms

secondly, they are at fault here. But in all honesty taking away their guns is surely gonna make the treets safer from the criminals that get their guns from other sources :ugh:

should also note though that the regular police arnt allowed to enter your home like that.. It has to be a CFO appointed inspector, and even then you can tell them to fuck off and get a warrant. Firearms laws do not override our charter of rights and freedoms

Why dont they hand you a blank registration form, fill it out and leave.... they committed a crime of forgetting paperwork...Not a gun crime.

Do you also get your cars taken away if you dont register them on time? do they come to your house and take it and not give it back?

the law was made for one purpose: To confiscate guns.

Joke's on those of us in Chicago, as well. We have a unit of the Chicago Police named Chicago Anti-Gun Enforcement, or CAGE. Any time a firearm is recovered at the scene of a crime it goes directly through them for tracing. They have some members of the ATF detailed to the unit to expediate the process. Of course, one of their other primary purposes is to check out people who do not renew their FOID card and/or firearm registration. Fail to renew on time? Confiscation and/or fines/jailtime.

during the original AWB in CA this is what everyone was worried about. Many people did not register for this reason. For those that did register then did not register everything, just a few that they would not be on suicide watch if it got taken away. I HAD a nice colt and a few other things that I did not register and kept out of state for many years.

If a second round of registration came though I think many in CA would register so they can build up their OLL to full AW's, be legal and grandfathered. That will never happen though as it would be political suicide.
