How do you guys feel about using graphite as lube on an AR15?

I just got my foid recently (Illinois :wtc:) and I'm hoping on picking up a used rifle, but I don't know if I should purchase some specialty lube or use graphite.

I figured it won't run like liquid grease does, but I don't know how it handles the pressure / temperature inside this rifle.

I use grease for the pins and safety. Regular old oil for the bolt carrier group. Hoppes #9 or whatever.

Where did you find the AR? I was looking at some at Maxons the other day. So tempting...

I'm not talking about the #9 solvent, they make grease and oil too.

edit: I don't know what happened with that asterics, that's what I get for posting from my phone.

anyway... my friend is selling his Bushmaster Carbon - 15 with a flat top. He got the feed ramps enlarged and polished, stamped gas key screws, new carrier with a shrouded firing pin, and 1 in 9 chrome moly barrel. He took great care of it, and besides some minor lube run off, this gun is flawless on the outside. Inside shows some minor tear and wear but nothing that would signify any dry firing or anything.

Overall... I can't fucking wait :bigthumb:

Actually if there is any lube to not use, it might be graphite. http://www.finishing.com/82/53.shtml I'm not a metallurgist, just tossing it out there for further research if you care.

Personally I haven't found any magic lubes to be all that much magic. I use mobil 1 oil and grease. So far so good.

I meant firing without any lubrication, not without ammunition. I realize that now :hsd:.

This will be my first gun so I don't really know WHAT to look for. I've been going to school for my ASE certifications, so all I can base my opinion on is what I've seen happen when you run transmissions / differentials / motors without any lube and what the metal looks like after.
