Headed back from Maine yesterday I missed my connection in La Guardia and go dicked around between there, Norfolk and Cincinnati I finally got home this morning, albeit without my luggage.

All that to say my gun is now missing with the rest of my luggage, and they have no idea where it is, or when, if it ever will, show up. What can I do?

I feel naked without it :wtc:

Check the airlines missing luggage policy, sometimes they give you an allowance before its even declared lost.

report it as lost to the airlines (make sure you specify that it is a firearm) and tell them that if they do not find it within the x amount of time, you will be reporting it stolen to the ATF. From what I have read, when dealing with guns getting 'lost' the mail or in airports, the words "FBI", "BATFE", and "Investigation" tend to produce results.

I was going to ask about the ATF or FBI, I didn't know if it was wise to bring them into it, or if they would even care since it was packed how they require it.

ATF would probably care about a missing gun that most likely crossed state lines.

hell yeah id say "if it is not found w/i 2 weeks i'll have no other choice than to turn it over to the ATF/FBI as a stolen/lost firearm through an airline."

if i worked for an airline company that would light a fire under my butt

Flying means ammo is in the original box, not in magazines.

I would alert the ATF once they said its missing.

No dicking around.. no 2 weeks. In 2 weeks 2 people could be killed and you have little paperwork to show you didnt have it

I would be PISSED and raising some fuckin hell! I have a short temper with incompitent people and believe me they would get an earful if they lost my luggage. That's one reason I hate flying.

I agree with the FBI/ATF track. Be polite and understanding, but firm in dealing with them and as said tell them that if it is not located promptly you will have to report it to the federal government, they should already know a gun is involved and that should motivate them, but warning them that government agencies would like to know about who ended up with it should get them looking into it.

Most likely your luggage got sorted wrong and thrown on another plane to another city, happened to me (luggage w/o firearm) going to Portland Maine from Jacksonville Florida via Philadelphia. They did know soon after touching down where the bag were though. Check in with them tomorrow and also with get the fact that it was lost in writing from the airline so that if the gun ever does surface somewhere it shouldn't be you can tell show the feds it is out of your possession.

    Ed Zachary.

The douche that checked to make sure the gun was unloaded in Maine dicked up my pelican pick and pluck foam too :(

I called the 800 number and spoke to a manger, told them I needed to speak with an manager, told them to make a note on the account if they couldn't at least track my luggage and tell me where it was my tomorrow AM I would be contacting the ATF. He didn't seem to care.

What would be the ramifications of reporting a gun lost stolen then calling back and saying "just kidding they found it"? What are the chances of having the gun and getting stopped one day then having to get arrested/go to court to explain it really isn't stolen?

id imagine they would have to keep the gun while its under investigation and you would probably have to file something to get it back and prove that its your gun(bill of sale, reciept, etc)

I'm not convinced anyone stole it.....yet... La Guardia was a fucking mess, those asshats couldn't operate, there were people there that had been sleeping in the airport for 2-3 days because their flights kept getting canceled, so I wouldn't be surprised if my luggage was just sitting around waiting for a flight.

Also it's not just the gun missing, my other bag is missing as well.
