My brother lives in Florida and the other day was his kids b-day and his wife was outside with the kids and he was inside and i guess there was 2 gang cars that went through shooting at each other and now the whole neighborhood is in a frenzy.

Hes looking to get a hand gun just for home protection. Right now hes looking at Glocks

    Anyone have any suggestion?

Take a couple classes and try some guns out. Thugs shooting at each other should be no reason to act as though they are coming after you and rush to a decision.

In terms of experience / exposure I'm assuming either very little or none at all?

If that's the case it'd be responsible thing to first advise him of taking a basic pistol class locally. that way he can form an opinion on what exactly he is comfortable with, rather than take suggestions from people that don't know him, vice versa. I'd hate to suggest an auto to someone that's completely new to guns.

Shot guns are very easy to use for a relatively new shooter, but not CCW friendly. then again, we don't know that either.

Unless of course you just want to hear some random person blurt out some semi impressive brand name pistol.

No offense, but, being "around" guns, and having relatives, friends as cops hardly qualifies as having "experience". My mothers a CPA and I grew up in our family business yet I have difficulties with my taxes every year.

That said, if your just looking for someone to blurt out a gun brand with nothing more than a story as a req, get a Glock.

I was going to use banjo playing but you beat me to the general spirit of things ;)

Personally I'd investigate why so many people are saying shotgun.

you said he wanted a gun for home protection... if that's the only purpose the gun will see, a shot gun is a much better tool for that job.

Use the right tool for the job.
