I have no intentions of winning marksmanship trophys or any illusions of "self defense" (zombies aside..) purposes. I have other toys for that. I strictly want it for paper annihilation.

I'd prefer 5.45 because of how retarded cheap it seems to be in comparison with most other rifle calibers. I want it to look like the stereotypical AK47 or 74 you'd see in a lame action flick or video game. I do not want any type of folding stock or forward pistol grip. I want to spend less than 500$

What brands do I want and what brands should I not consider? Everyone here seems to hate the WASRs but no one has explained why?

People hate on WASR's b/c they are not as nice in fit and function as a Yugo or China AK. Those same people think that if the WASR can't shoot 2 MOA then it's a piece of shit. A WASR will fit your needs perfectly. Good luck finding a WASR2 though.

I've seen several WASR3s (.223) and a seemingly unlimited amount of 10s but never seen one in 5.45 :wtc:
Should I expect all brands of AK variants to cost more if chambered in 5.45?

I figured the OT elitists were just discarding it because its cheap.

You've never seen a 5.45 WASR because everyone that has one is holding onto it, and there have not been any imports in several months. With ammo prices being what they are combined with the limited availability of the WASR 2's expect to pay $450-$500 for what a year a ago was a $250 gun. That is if you can find one.

Less then $500 and 5.45 WASR is pretty much your only choice, might get lucky and score a SAR2. Only other thing currently on the market in that price range is Century's Tantal's which are kinda shitty and have a US made nonchrome barrel, since you want it for cheap corrosive surp ammo chrome lined would be preferred.

For $550 you could get a converted Saiga, which will be significantly higher quality than a WASR.

I'm seriously considering selling my WASR-2 and buying one, but if I do the sale will be local. :hs:

If he wants a 5.45 rifle, then no Saiga. Saiga doesnt produce a 5.45 rifle.

Given your budget, you might be forced into 7.62x39. I haven't seen many 5.45's for sale these days, and all would be above your budget. If you settle for a 7.62 gun, there is nothing really wrong with a WASR. It ain't pretty, but it does the job just fine. I have one, never had any problem with it. Just check to make sure the front sight isn't canted. You can refinish the stock yourself for $20 and a few nights worth of work.
