Its just the way the lens renders bokeh. Different lenses do it different ways. Its not uncommon.

    What was your shutter speed?

1/2 are just the wrong angle IMO. Some people love shooting sideline but I hate it. The only time Id shoot sideline is from half court. And even then, most of the "good" stuff I see from there is wide.
3 is nice. I always find myself taking the same kind of shot.
4 it is a funny crop...It almost works, but theres just too much dead space in the frame for me
5 is ok. Would be better with his eyes open. You can see the swirly bokeh here again. The lens always did it but you just never got to see that part of the image on the crop body of the D300
6 looks like a good moment is happening. Im curious what it looks/looked like just a little bit later
7 has a crooked horizon. The moment is solid. Could be used as a cutout for design work if you needed it to
8 I like stuff like this. I would have cropped tighter but thats me. Were all different
9 Dont know what to say about it. The picture doesnt immediately tell a story so it kinda loses interest
10/11 is the wrong angle again imo. I know sometimes theres not much you can do about it
12 ..ok. Just dont know what to say. I mean, its not bad and I suppose it is a funny face
13 pretty much the same as 12.

Sorry if I come across as harsh or if Im critiquing pictures that were just put up for fun. Dont hate me. I really do

no you're not harsh at all, it's great advice.

yes, we all have a little different style, and i actually preferred the sideline as opposed to right next to the goal on the goal line. but this was only my 3rd bball game so I'm sure I'll find my sweet spot soon.

my shutter speed was 1/800? do they not seem sharp? I would've preferred 1/1000 but I wanted to try 1/800 and most seem fine to me. I was shooting wide open @ 2.8

    Thanks man :h5:

Theyre plenty sharp. I only ask because I know a lot of people using D3s (or D700 in your case) that will shoot at 4000 ISO and f/4 instead of 2000 and f/2.8 just for the sharper picture. Theres no question the lens is sharper at f/4 and if you have the technology to give you a clean 4000ISO image, its worth a shot to try it. Dont even have to go to f/4 but even 3.2 or 3.5

Before the D3, the 200-400 would never have been though of as a Basketball lens but I know of a few people who swear by it now.

Yes, I shot at f/3.2-3.5 (and ISO 3200-4500) during the last game and this game I shot f/2.8 and ISO 2000

I'm not sure which result I like better? :dunno:
