This only gives GSP 5 weeks to train. Gonna be one helluva card though.

I dont know what to think of this.

i feel bad for Serra, I am worried that GSP only had 5 weeks and will take Hughes lightly.

this is quickly making this easily in the top 3 cards of all time imho.

Serra needs to defend by April. That gives him 5 months to recover from his injuries and to train.
I'm so glad this fight is happening. I thought the Hughes/Serra fight would just get pushed off, probably meaning GSP wouldn't fight till the Summer.

  11. not really that interested in this match. I'd rather see them fight someone new, like Thiago Alves or Jon Fitch

Im gonna be pissed if GSP loses, but 5 weeks should be enough time to get ready for hughes, im sure hes still in good shape. Who's replacing Hughes v. Serra on the ufc 79 card?

Seriously though, Hughes better beat GSP so Hughes can go on to push Serra's shit in.

Doesn't it work against Hughes too though? He's been training for Serra all this time and now he has to change up and train for GSP.

I'm sure GSP has been in shape and kept up. I don't think he would jump on it like he did if he wasn't ready.

I don't know who to like in this match....

I think Hughes will be motivated now, more then he has been in previous fights.

I just hope that GSP is as motivated as Hughes.

Hopefully GSP trains harder than he did for Serra.(He admitted he trained about 2 weeks for that fight)

i said it before, i'm a little pissed about this but hey, why not? get two great fighters in there and put on the best PPV they can, sucks if Hughes wins this Interim they can really give the fight against Serra a good amount of hype/push to sell. i like this idea now.

Oh ok... I see what they did here... uh...

Interim welterweight title after Serra cant fight but Sherk keeps his fucking belt forever and a day after not fighting. They couldnt have done this for lightweight a long time ago? Aside from that, how is this even going to work? GSP or Hughes is going to win and be the interim champ until Serra gets back? What if its going to take several months, will they defend the interim title in the mean time? This is stupid, IMO. If they want Hughes to fight GSP then cool but this 'champ until the champ gets back' is silly. Especially when Sherk has been going through meetings and trials for how long now? No part time champ for lightweight.

PS- I just woke up so all or none of that may make any sense at all.

I sound like a head case saying it, but I had pretty much a full blown anxiety attack watching Hughes GSP II. I am just really freaked out that GSP wont come into this fight 100% ready physically, or more important mentally.

He looked really good against Kos, but that same performance might not get it done with Hughes. You can say Kos is a better wrestler, you can say he has better conditioning, but Hughes is a god damn tractor. Dude is more durable than any fighter I have seen, and he is mentally always there.

I dont like Hughes, but there is no doubt that if you face him and you are just 99%, he will grind on that 1% till he wins.
