i already have two 19s (well, ones my wifes) but the wife wants to buy me a gun for our anniversary.

    i'm torn between the 17 and 34.

    what does WMD think?

it would be a plinker and/or i'd shoot limited with it but i'd kinda fuck myself since i'd be shooting limited minor. :o i could just use it for production but i'd rather keep using my 19. :o

    help a honkey decide.

  2. If you already have 2 9mm Glocks, and you say you'd prefer to just use one you already have for competition, why don't you have her get you something different?

Nothing wrong with standizing on 9mm. If your just shooting local matches you can shoot limited and just declare minor. Many matches will just score you major anyways because it is easier to score the entire limited division as major (for local matches)

It's really not a big disadvantage if your club does not use a lot of swingers or other moving targets. It will do you good to actually aim for the alphas.

I would go for a 34 if your want an iron sighted gun. If you maybe wanted to build a open gun with a dot sight then the 17 would be the best platform.

I'm probably going to stay away from open for quite a while. Thanks for the tip yar. I know the local clubs score minor as minor but, to be honest with myself, at this point I'm out there to run a gun, not to compete or win. :o

    G34.

I'm looking for a G34 upper right now to go on my 17OD frame.

    G17

You can always get a 34 slide later if you want.

I'd say the 34, for the converse of the reason that Milky gave. a 34 frame should come with the "competition" trigger and the factory extended slide release, whereas you'd have to retrofit those onto a 17 frame.

And G17 slide assemblies (and barrels, springs, etc) are pretty readily available if you want to alternate.

Plus the 34 has the longer sight radius and more muzzle-end mass.

I feel safe in my assumption that a 17 upper would be easier to find than a 34.

I've got a 34 upper I'd sell if interested. Also have a complete G17 OD I'm looking to sell too.

34 upper has less than 1500 rounds through it, no holster wear at all, has HiViz fiber sights (red/green) and a Wolff competition spring kit in it (striker and plunger springs). Will also include the factory adjustable rear sight and original springs if you want them. Send me an email [email protected] if you're interested. Probably looking to get close to $400 shipped for it due to the couple extras.

If anyone's interested in the G17 you can let me know too. OD, w/ lots of extras, less than 750 rounds through it.

You're right. Who in their right mind would want to stay with a woman who wants to buy him a Glock for their Anniversary?
