I got an invite to a mini grip meet from Clay Edgin (A captain of crush, and the guy who certs people for Heavy Grips) that was taking place at Dale Harder's house. Dale has writen a few strengh books he's latest being "Strong, Stronger, Strongest". There was 7 of us at this really low key gettogether.

We did squeezes on a Baseline Dynomometer. I pulled a 81 Kilo, Clay who has the known record on this brand of dynamometer pulled a ~115 kilos on it.

Then we went onto grippers where Clay showed me some of the finer technical details of setting a gripper, which I slammed shut a CoC2 easier than I ever have before. I went on to a Beef Builder Super Master for my next try but only got that within a 1/2" I'd say its about as hard as my HG300 but with a wider spread.

Then we did some plate pinching. I couldn't get 2 25s for the life of me there I think it was mostly do to the sliperyness of the paint on the plates and I think my hands a little bit stronger spreadout a bit farther, but I was able to get 5 10s with both my left and right hand without any problems. They all seemed to think that was good, no one was able to do 6 10s.

Next was Farmers walk. Clay rought up his own handles that weighted 70lbs each so we used those. I maxed out at 310lbs in each hand with a walk of 25 feet, the length of the course. I was most happy with this event. Clay ended up doing 350 in each hand for the same distance.

Clay brought some soda cans for us to see if we could pop them. I got mine to burst without much problem with "chest press" that was really cool. They were Safeway Select cans though so I have no idea if thats an easy can. But I came back home and tried it with a Pepsi can and wasn't able to do it. :(

We went back inside and did a bunch of nail and bar bending, well Clay just kinda showed off bending wrenches and some big ass hot rolled steel rods. I suck at tearing and ripping. All of the smaller guys who were weaker at the grippers and farmers walk were much better at it than me.

All in all it was a good waste of 5 hours. I dont have any pictures I think Clay wil be getting them in a week or so, but once they are out I'll be sure to post them.

    Should have all attempted this:

Most Telephone Directories Torn in 3 Minutes
Edward Charon (USA) ripped from top to bottom 39 telephone directories, each with 1,004 numbered pages in a time of three minutes at Roseburg Valley Mall, Roseburg, Oregon, USA, on August 14, 2004.

Not quite as gay as getting naked in a school bathroom, shoving a XS flex fit hat between your knees and taking pictures for OT though.

That sounds sweet. I want to be able to pop a beer can and tear a phone book!

Hey grouch, I just got my 5 HGs but I'm not really sure what sort of 'routines' there are. I read all this stuff about inverts and negatives and stuff....got any links for me?

    cool.
gripping i dont mind too much, its pinching thats so damn hard. i think you really take for granted the other 'half' of your hand and using the thumb and its muscles, since its removed from so many things.

are there ways to train it besides plate pinching? im not down with dropping plates on my tile floor. :o
