I'm talking about relatively new bands (so, Aerosmith and Metallica don't count, they suck anyway) that rock out hardcore. What is the best and/or hardest rocking band currently? My vote goes to Queens of the Stone Age, once you've seen them in concert there's no way you can disagree. Dazzle me with replies, see if I can't get some new suggestions for awesome new groups.

If the greatest current rock band is seriously considered Chevelle, then it says something about how fucking atrociously horrible rock music has become.

  15. I second Tool. Probably the most complex heavy rock band around. There is just something about their music that makes you realize that they really understand music. It just seems like its not just about playing the same riff throughout the whole song to them. Its more about putting together a moving melody that actually makes you feel more than one thing throughout the song.

if we are talking about rock music, im gonna hafta say Foo Fighters is probably the best "band" in that genre right now

pantera and tool fit the metal catagory, and while tool is a good example, there are bands that complete exced what pantera has done and done so much more.

yea, kyuss was better but nobody ever heard of them. marketing sucks huh?

definately qotsa. clutch is also a great band, but they have not been pushed by the promoters nearly as much as qotsa.

Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Chevelle are the best out of the "recent" rock bands.

I agree for mainstream, those are about as good as it gets. Audioslave is good, but I expected so much more from them

But I think bands like Marsvolta rock pretty hard as well

TrustCo. is an awesome band. I've seen them live and they rock pretty hard. Too bad they didn't get the exposure they deserve. As far as the greatest current band, that's a difficult question. I'd have to think about it, but off the top of my head, I'd say either Foo Fighters, Social Distortion, the Chili Peppers, or Jane's Addiction.
