This sport is already international, do you guys think it will ever be on a level where it can be made into an olympic sport? It would be kind of badass to have gold-medal grapplers :coold:

grappling seems to be too general of a sport to be considered an olympic sport. Someone on sherdog asked about BJJ being an olympic sport. It sounded like a good idea, but then someone stated that there had to be AT LEAST 200 blackbelts worldwide (or something around that number). 200 black belts is feasible, but there needed to be representatives from a certain number of countries as well, I don't know the numbers, but those are the only details i really remember. It's weird that there needed to be a certain amount of elite (read: black belts) in order for it to even be considered for an olympic sport.

I wonder if somehow they could re-introduce pankration.......

i don't think grappling is too general, kind of like the stuff that happens in abu-dhabi, mostly nogi jiu-jitsu/submission wrestling etc..

There is already wrestling, so I think that grappling IS a bit too general.

    Maybe submission wrestling?

I had thought that pankration was to be re-introduced for the Athens olympics. What happened with that?

Grappling will never be an olympic sport.

People need to start talkin to the guys at the X-Games.

I believe even pancration can go over in the X-Games.

Besides in the olympics the best in the world wouldn't be able to compete anyway since they get paid for competing it negates their ability to be in the games since you need to be an amateur.

you're wrong there. people take it pretty damn seriously, maybe not so much here in america anymore but worldwide it's huge. people strive to win the gold in their respected sport and those who do receive a ton of credit.

if they did somehow make an olympic version of abudhabi that was televised in the US, it would be pretty cool but unlikely.
