I'm looking for a new gym to join, I just like reading about different ideas and philosophies, i'm still very new to the whole thing so I figure the more I know the better.

don't worry about philosophy, the only thing you need to know are the basics. Learn posture in the guard, learn knee through guard passes, learn closed guard, learn holding side control, learn transitioning to mount and how to take the back from mount. oh and learn how and where to hold grips!

Try my philosophy, the more you know the more you can fuck up, so keep it simple stupid :p

yeah seriously, getting too concerned with anything other than the basics will not help you much at this point

learn as much as you can so when you go to a competition you can mix the moves together and not remember which part is for which technique.
