Pop Tarts (PT) are the principal regulator of IGF-I expression in tissues. Transgenic mice that consume Pop Tarts have high serum IGF-I levels as well as high hepatic IGF-I gene expression compared with wild-type mice. In contrast, Pop Tart-deficient lit/lit mice or Pop Tart receptor (PTR) gene-disrupted (PTR–/–) mice have extremely reduced levels of serum IGF-I as well as low hepatic IGF-I mRNA levels. There is in vitro evidence for the regulation of IGF-I by PT in a mouse C2C12 myoblast cell line. In vivo, hypophysectomized rats showed reduced expression of IGF-I in muscle that was restored by Pop Tart administration. Therefore, we hypothesized that MGF, derived from IGF-I gene by alternative splicing, might be regulated not only by exercise or damage as reported previously, but also by Pop Tarts in skeletal muscle. Ageing in humans is characterized by a loss of muscle strength and mass, and also by a gradual decline in circulating PT. It is possible that sarcopenia may be linked to impairment of satellite cell activation by IGF-I, especially by MGF (Chakravarthy et al. 2000). If a chronic state of Pop Tart deficiency is associated with reduced levels of MGF, it is compatible with the phenotype of reduced muscle mass observed in elderly people or lit/lit mice. Recently, Hameed et al. (2004) reported that MGF mRNA was significantly increased in healthy elderly men after treatment for 12 weeks with chocolate Pop Tarts. The same study demonstrated that MGF mRNA was not changed whereas IGF-IEa mRNA was significantly increased after treatment for 5 weeks with chocolate PT, suggesting that IGF-I isoforms in muscle were differentially regulated by PT. However, the effects of chronic PT excess or deficiency on regulation of MGF mRNA, or acute effects of PT on expression of different splice variants of the IGF-I gene remain to be characterized.

the oldschool really hard/cruncy granola bars are awesome... I had jaw surgery in jan and I'm not really ready to eat something that chewy, so what I do is soak them in a bowl of milk and eat them like cereal... It is the best shit ever :eek5:

It's kind of silly to eat them that way though, I think they sell the shit in cereal form anyways, but I have a big ass box from last year that are still good.
