Sad to hear. But, I wonder why his weapon was pointing in that direction?!

LAVACA COUNTY, Texas -- A 14-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed in a hunting accident by his grandfather, investigators said.

According to the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office, Taylor Michalec's grandfather said he was walking behind the teen when the trigger on his AK-47 assault rifle snagged a branch and discharged, striking the teen in the back.

The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon near County Road 290, about five miles west of Moulton, Texas, about 100 miles east of San Antonio.

Both his father and grandfather tried to administer CPR, but when EMS responders arrived, the teen was pronounced dead. Michalec had just completed his freshman year at Steele High School, where he was a member of the football team.

Lavaca County investigators said they will not file any charges on the boy's grandfather because the shooting appeared to be an accident.

    :wtf:

if it shot him in the back, that means he was fucking pointing the AK at the kid THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME. Stupid son of a bitch deserves manslaughter charges atleast.

It does suck but you don't know what happened... if it snagged on a branch it could have yanked the barrel upward or something. :dunno:

Hopefully the bad guys don't get a hold of this especially since it happened with an AK.

:ugh2: who needs an ak47 to hunt? they're only used for killing mass numbers of people.

Unpossible. Only untrained African children fighting civil wars can kill with AK47s.

It was probably an SKS. The media LOVES to use the terms AK47 and assault rifle whenever possible, even when not accurate.

using the safety + muzzle awareness = that child would still be alive.

never point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to destroy.

I'm willing to bet anything that muzzle was aimed at the teen's back the whole time. I'm thinking they were slightly at an angle, with his rifle pointing 45deg or 135deg...

It's an accident waiting to happen, and you're certainly asking for it.

His point was probably that either one would have saved the kids life. Little quick to jump on someone...?

i understand his point, but just because the safety is on doesnt mean its ok to point at someone :nono:

the only thing that would have 100% saved his life was NOT pointing the gun at him, safeties are mechanical devices and can therefore fail

:werd: I'd rather simply not mention the safety. Muzzle discipline is what was lacking.
