Anyone know anything about this school? Its right next to where I work.
its good, usually top 1-3 in competitions. its not mma school though I think, not sure if they do striking at all
im in Gracie-Barra in Santa Barbara. Its WAS MMA, but then became strictly BJJ. We will soon be moving to a new location with MMA facilities.
That sounds good enough for me honestly. I know they offer kickboxing and have heavybags so thats good enough for me for now. How bad would it be to do BJJ w/o any insurance?
btw whats the price plan/contract there?
i dunno man. couple weeks in i broke my nose, ripped my toe nail off, and got a sick matt burn on my forehead..
I think $125 or so.
shit. Another couple months till I get insurance and im itching to train somewher.
Its just all coincidence. I was in someones closed guard and tried to kick over for a armbar. Hit me right in the nose. Not really a bigdeal.
And the mat burn is no big deal dude.
You'll be alright.
here in SB, its 125 a month. They have Beg/Inter. Classes MWF @ 11-12PM then again at 5:30-6:30, advanced classes @ 6:30-7:30.
TTh 1130-1230 then 6-7 at night. Friday is 11-12, and saturday is no-gi.
Its cool man. Worth it, especially with the seminars and competitions.
When I first started looking for a bjj academy, location was a key factor. GB in Chicago is pretty damn close plus near the Western Brown Line. The place is huge for a gym. Clean, good quality stuff. They have free weights if you're interested too. The main floor has a lot of bags (since you said you wanted to kickbox). What I do know is that you need to attend 30 self-defense training classes before actual grappling. Stuff like how to defend a takedown, taking people down, hip throw, what to do when X attacks with this form of weapon/punch/kick. Etc. Adem said it normally takes 3 months to complete it unless you have no life and go every chance possible. I stopped going after a few weeks of class, but the instructors are good, the gym is really big (2 mats), and free weights.
Where do you work near? Exactly in that area?
Not huge on that self defense thing, but I guess I woudln't mind.
I'm just east of Damen, on Lawrence. This place is exactly on the way home from me cause I just take lawrence west.
Where do you train at now? I know you mentioned it but I forget.
