    Hey all,

I mostly lurk, but thought may as well post this. I have a lot of ex-pat friends, one of whom is Danish. Her boyfriend right now is training as a backup for the Olympics in Beijing right now, in the 86kg division I believe. Anywho, he came to Paris and I thought it'd be a great time if he could show us a few moves in front of the Eiffel tower. Dude was fuckin strong, and he could have seriously laid a beat down on me many a time. But he was one of the nicest guys I've ever met too, I was very impressed.

I guess as a note, I don't really practice much grappling. I mostly stick to boxing/kickboxing/muay thai and weightlifting.

Here are some pics of us all getting thrown around: (I'm in the white shirt btw, and the wrestler's g/f is in the red, my buddy and his g/f were the two others)

Chatted with his g/f last night, and she said that this fall I could probably come to Copenhagen and actually go train/get beat up with him and the national team for a couple of days if I wanted. I think I may give it a go, I never get opportunities like that.

I see no reason why not. :bigthumb:

But yeah, grappling is a damn good time. I'm just afraid of staph infections, and the gym that I know that does pankration and BJJ isn't very hygienic (I don't think they clean their mats on a regular basis).

    Shower immediately after?

One person I knew loved training at their gym but said it was too gross and they were kinda scared. So, they offered to clean the gym everyday after class in exchange for training fees or a portion of them. It was a polite way of getting training and a hygenic gym.

yeahhh... im kinda afraid of the hygene issue in Paris. not going to lie. i figure that since i'll be at the ''big name'' places (DLR and Alliance), i should stand a better chance of not dying of some exotic disease...

Yeah, she's a really French girl, so he didn't want to really give her a toss.

The hygiene in general here isn't really a problem. Personally, I think it's good to be a bit dirty with things, it builds up your immune system.

But when it comes to staph, and seeing all the problems people have with it, freaks me out a little.

Is just a shower after all you need to do to prevent it? When the gym re-opens (closed for summer holidays, oh France) I'll ask them more details about how they clean their mats.

I guess officially I'm a Canadian ex-pat. Been living in France for a year now, and will stay for at least another 6 months. I think I'm going to keep it up here, 9 weeks of vacation FTW.

The stars are for the celebration of France now having the chair on the EU. Obviously it's a pretty big deal over here, but everyone still hates Sarkozy. C'est la vie.

I highly recommend living in Paris if anyone ever gets the chance. The city is very alive all the time, and incredibly safe (in the city limits). I've looked around for some of the French fighters gyms, but they are generally on the outskirts of the city in some of the uber sketchy suburbs. Also, I'm not black or arab, so I'd probably get mugged/beaten up/stabbed.
