I know I don't need this and I'm so close to returning it. But it's soooo tempting to open and put OS X on it.

if you don't need it, why would you buy it?

I've never understood the impulse buying people do for electronics they don't "need" or truly "want". I can't think of any electronic item i've ever purchased that I didn't want or need first before looking and purchasing. Disposable cash flow?

:werd: I research the hell out of the electronic purchases I make. Yes, I've bought a few things without much research, but never unless they're something I'd already been thinking about buying anyway.

I've been seeing more and more of this netbooks. Thinking about picking one up in the future. If I get tired of it, I'll pass it down to one of my siblings.
First I'm gonna upgrade from my white MacBook to a unibody MB or 15"MBP.

I have a mini 9 with OSX and windows 7 on it. great machine, os x works pretty much flawlessly. beats the pants off the wind. You actually install using a real os x 10.5.6 dvd and system updates work great.

If you keep it and use it, the runcore drives are a great performance boost. I got a 32GB one and boot OS X and Windows in 28 and 30 seconds respectively from power button press.

I got a Mini9 but it only has a 4GB SSD, that's not enough room for OS X right?

probably not. you could probably get it down to 3.5 maybe without languages, drivers, fonts, etc, but what's the point of having 500mb of free space

I thought OSX was like 6GB even without all the extra languages and drivers. Is this a custom OSX install disk?

I ordered a Mini 9 to put OSX on it but I ended up changing my mind.

I wouldn't mind, but I'd rather spend on other stuff :hs:

Have you actually used the Mini? What makes it a POS other than your bad experience waiting for one to ship?

It's a great computer and the Atom is a very capable processor for what it is designed for, especially when combined with 2GB of RAM and a fast SSD.

I own a couple Mini 9's, one running XP and the other OSX. Both handle Web/Email/Office/Photo's/Music with ease! I speak from experience!
