My M44 came in. It's in really good shape. In fact it looks brand new. I can't wait to shoot it. Now I just have to get the cosmo off. Picked up a couple of zombie flicks to watch while I do that. It's weird how every time I buy a gun I end up getting a zombie movie, too. I always find them when I'm waiting for the background check.... Anyway here's your pic

cosmo will attract and hold dust/dirt. it also gums up moving parts and can make them not function properly. not to mention it's sticky and looks nasty.

Once you shoot a rifle that still had cosmo on it and had it drip all over your hand and it wont wipe off, you'll understand. It also messes up the moving parts of the gun as it is as thick as molasses and sticky as hell

Even after you get "all" the cosmo off, all it takes is a nice sunny day at the range and it starts oozing out of every possible place there is.

I'd think that wouldn't happen if you do a really thorough job, bake the stock etc.

I'm going to bake it later. Right now the heating element on my oven is in two pieces. Fucking Frigidaire is worthless. I plan on getting that fixed as soon as the part comes in.

Nice, mine came in on monday, also $80 and in like new condition, but it has a darker finish than yours and I have to wait until the 24th to pick it up.

    I think I might use my C&R to snatch up a $90 M44 from J&G

I just bought a mint condition laminated one w/o cosmoline from AIM and it was in awesome shape.

And I also bought (2) SKS's w/ cosmoline. I had forgotten how much I hate taking off the cosmoline.
I left mine out in the sun on my dining room table for a week just to make it easier.

I had a choice between this one and one with a darker finish. The darker finish just didn't look as sexy to me so I went with this one. That and there were a couple of imperfections in the bluing on the other one. This one looks like it just came off of the factory line. There isn't a spot of bluing that's fucked up on it :coold:

its a necessary evil of many surplus guns..

and alot of it will come out on its own when the gun gets hot from shooting..

    then just wipe it off
