So I got verbal orders today to the 1st MAW in Hawaii as an AVT. So after I finish up here at AVT school, i'll head to FMTB and off to Hawaii. Just :x: that they don't change before I get my written. :big grin:

If you run out of things to do here in Hawaii, you're not trying hard enough.

I've been here since 2001 and still love it.

ok well...good for you, im not the only one with my opinion and you arent either, from what ive learned, people who love the beach and/or surfing are generally the only ones who love being stuck out there

It's that way almost anywhere you have a concentration of military. Especially sailors. The locals brace themselves for the impact when they know a large ship will be having liberty, and they spend some of the profit they have made on the soldiers/sailors repairing the damage those same soldiers/sailors cause.

We are our own worst enemy a majority of the time. :hsugh:

Im white and I have been here since i was stationed here. I hate surfing and sand sucks donkey balls. The locals are cool as long as your not an ignorant asshole who thinks everyone else should suck your dick because your military/white/whatever else. However there is a fair amount of ignorant locals too.
The island is pretty chill and there is plenty to do. Just get outside and experience new things.

Not everyone shares the same opinions and that cool but one person's bad opinion could have been caused by that person and not anything else.

It is mostly one of those "do unto others" things. I had a bunch of local friends while I was there, but it did take a little while. :)

Quickest way to get on the locals bad side.

Micronesians, especially. Some Sa'moans. I have friends from all walks of life and races.

Just go with the flow. There's plenty to do and get involved in here. IMO, most people that say there's nothing to do are always doing the same thing.

True. There's good and bad about being stationed here. I love riding my motorcycle all year round but the traffic and drivers suck.

Just have to avoid the japanese tourist. 4 motorcyclist in my unit died in the 3 years I was stationed in Hawaii. Every accident had to do with a Japanese tourist not understanding the rules of the road in America.

    loved my time in Pearl

it is an island, and it is what you make of it

remember though that island hoppers are fairly cheap. You can fly to one of hte other islands for like 30-50 bucks and spend the day there and fly back in the evening...good way to spend some time.

Diving is fucking outrageous, I loved it so much. I was working on my Divemaster before I left I loved it so much.

Australia is still a long ways away and it's an overnight flight etc

you won't be visiting Australia on a weekend:o

you can do plenty of diving on Oahu though, lots of places to go both beach dives and boat dives. There's some nice wrecks in like 110 feet of water too. You might even consider getting into Nitrox while you're out there.

and Lobster diving is the fucking bomb!!!!:o
