So, I just sold my XTi and grip to a friend of mine, now I need to order a 40d, but have a few questions.

I sold my friend the body and kit lens, so now the shortest lens I have is my 50mm 1.8 and my 70-200. Now I didn't usually use my kit lens much, as 90% of the stuff I do is with my 70-200, but I've seen people talking of buying the 40d with kit lens and flipping it for money due to the rebate now.

I even heard someone say that it was dumb not to buy the 40d kit and sell the kit lens for a few hundred. What's the deal with this, is that really the way to go?

$650 with grip, 3 batteries, box, kit lens, all the accessories and shit. Sold it to a friend. About 9k clicks on it.

    He's happy, I'm happy, I don't see where it's such a bad thing.

But anyway, any ideas on the actual question I asked in the post?

i did the same thing... bought a 40d body only and the 17-55 Canon, was expensive as shit, but worth it.

Both the lens and the 40d have a rebate going on so you can save few hundred dollars if you buy before the 18 of june.

I thought about buying the kit lens, but everywhere i look i see this lens on sale. Also didn't really wana go through the hassle of selling something so i opted out and still saved few hundred bucks by going with the body only. I'll be putting that saved money towards another lens.

If you think you can sell the lens, then go for the KIT.

Well, I just went to my local brick and mortar store and picked it up. I paid about $75 more than I would have if I had ordered online, but I kinda like supporting local business. That and I found out I now have a 5% discount on future photo gear! So that $75 will probally end up saving me money again, especially if I buy another body!
