Well...okay...not really. I was jokingly fucking with my coaches a couple weeks ago and said, "Come on, guys, tapped a brown belt, won a men's blue belt, won X amount of tournaments at blue belt...one tip! Just one!" This, of course, immediately resulted in me getting pwned that night by every high rank.

Well, after a private with Roli, Matt comes onto the mat with a way to evil grin on his face, grabs my belt, and wraps a white with sparkly gold writing "Great Effort" TKD sticker around it, insisting that if I don't keep in on my belt through Pan Ams that I'll be kicked out of the gym.

Tip = Stripe....and apparently it was legit. Today was a surprise testing (no fees...they just watch us roll and award rank), and after class I was given three more to go with the TKD sticker.

  14. ah, never heard it called tip before.

Four, actually, and this is how they justified it (I've been training <2 yrs):

First off, I haven't tested or been to one of these spontaneous testings since last April, when I got my blue.

I train 6x a week, 1 or 2x a day. 2-3 private lessons a month, 2-3 competitions a month. I roll with mostly high ranks, come early to drill and stay late to roll. I cross train almost once a month for a couple days at a different school. I take notes, I watch tapes, I go to seminars. I watch my competition videos with my coaches, see what I did wrong, then take a private to fix it. My game has improved incredibly quickly, and I've got most of the technique of purple belts, but I don't have the flow, the connections, the series that purple belts have. I haven't made it my game yet, and that will probably take another 6 months->year (I'm not rushing it, they sure as hell aren't) to really get my groove but they think I'm on my way.
