We were practicing submissions from being in side mount (bottom) and after we drilled we free rolled and I caught a maafawkaa in an RNC. Things are starting to make sense.

id love too. i dont get used technically very much at my new place.
they all train strictly nogi and want to be mma fighters so they try to power out of everything and force submissions.

but i get alot of attention from the instructors and there a couple dudes that focus on hard on technique.

i was just thinking the other day that i could use some tips on how to be sneaky and take someone's back when youre on bottom in north-south.

I do no gi and train primarily for mma....I don't power out of everything or force submissions. I try to use technique to get myself out of a lot of shit....then strike my way to a submission

most, not all, but most mma oriented guys have sloppy grappling from my experience. the ones who dont usually trained at a bjj school previously.

i knew tameem would have an idea of what i meant. ESPECIALLY considering where we live.
orange county is the home of mma wannabes. they all come in trying to be rampage or make attempts to do a matt hughes double-leg.

and ive been to a number of mma gyms out here, MOST (not all) guys out here have been training somewhere between 0-2 years and it shows that theyre trying to take in too much at once. doing muay thai, mma, wrestling, nogi, weightlifting all in the same week.

dont get mad, youre sexy with that lip ring timmah :hsd:

Took it out, it was getting on my nerves taking it out, training for 4 hours then basically having to repierce it. I've been going to the gym most every day getting ready for this fight.

I was so sore yesterday that I didn't go to work :hs:

Wow you need a new school that's bullshit. If you think about it you won't really improve, yourself. You'll be better at dealing with power guys, but they are not technical what so ever.

Back where I first trained BJJ in Kingston it's a military town and we had a bunch that would come out to the classes and I swear to god they thought they were better than anyone. All they would do is this and it'd piss me off to no end. Luckly there were a lot of good guys there too so I didn't always have to roll with the goons.

ive been to a number of schools, and i realized that this is the best fit for me right now because it is literally right across the street from where i work. i still have A LOT to learn and i am learning becuase im going very often. there are other, better schools in the area, but because of lack of convenience i wouldnt go as often. i definitely havent plateaued, and i wont leave until i clearly feel that im not improving.

when i roll with the bigger power guys, i try to focus doing things that will better me (being explosively quick and technical at the right moment, having an excellent base when on top, exaggerating my hip movement on bottom when regaining guard).

if im rolling with people that i can control easier, i always try to do techniques that i have dont usually have success with. and if i submit them easy, then i tell them how i did it and what i was looking for so that its not easy for me to do it to them again.

like i said, im getting alot of focus time with the instructor and that helps me fine tune my game.

also, im just starting muay thai and those 3-5hours of MT each week are fascinating as fuck, im soaking up all kinds of knowledge in those classes.

oh yeah, its sucks when this big 220lb dude grabs my much smaller wrist with both of his hands and spends the next 5 minutes trying to force an armbar.
