i didn't even mean to get it...i was rather drunk and got a nipple piercing on a whim down on the boardwalk at the jersey shore.

anyway, i'm going through the aftercare stage and whatnot. how long until i a) can just let it be and b) can take it out and put it new jewelry

    :s

well this is the aftercare iv always used:

first of all, stop touching it!
never touch it without washing your hands with an antibacterial handwash (dont use bars of soap or anything cos they can hold bacteria, liquid soaps ftw) and try to not touch/move it while its 'dry' cos any crusty bits will irritate the opening ..safest place to move/touch/clean it is shower

and avoid pools/spas (hot tubs sorry), baths etc for a few weeks cos they can harbour bacteria too

use a salt water solution to wash it and soak it with after you shower, soaks should be about 3-5 mins

...oh yea, you americans have different names for things so i cant really suggest specific brands to buy as i dont know what you have, hopefully someone else will be able to help you out with that

...if i forgot anything or someone does something different, i wont take offence, first time iv tried explaining/writing this down, i do all this unconsiously now so its hard to pick apart and put in words lol

you can buy just plain/non-iodized salt at any supermarket and can do your soaks, I would them for at least 5 mins. and I would rinse them off with plain warm water afterwards.

I would suggest using either bottled or filtered water instead of just plain tap water, you can buy gallon jugs of distilled water pretty cheap.

I have never taken my nipple rings out in the two years I have had them, but I will recommend using proper care for healing. Saltwater rinse and not moving it are the two big things I have noticed with my piercings.

^^yep, dont ever move them, ever! my gf used to think it was funny  yeah funny like getting donkey punched. and if you swim a lot (esp in the ocean) get ready for the occasional infection/swelling. I've never had any horrible problems but I get minor infections about once a year from swimming/scuba. sand + nipple piercings = :(
