It's my early christmas present from my fiance, a XTi w/ the kit, canon ef 50mm f/1.8 II, 2gb mem card, canon bag, and wireless remote. She got it all from amazon for $987.82.

Basically, this is my first foray into dslr's, I'm more of a video guy, so I'm kind of familiar with some of it, but completely lost on some of the gear aspect. I know I want a longer zoom lens, but it'll have to wait till spring. What kind of stuff would you recommend, including lenses, for me to pick up? I'm already pretty sure I'm going to be picking up another battery and the battery grip. I'll mostly be doing outdoor shots. Any input is appreciated. :hs:

Both. I live in a rural area, next to the Mississippi river, so I have a lot of both landscapes and wildlife to shoot.

It'll probably be no more than a thousand at most. more than likely somewhere around $500-$800. :hs:

those will probably be your best bets... you can probably pick both of them up used for a little over 1k.
