SA XD .40 sub-compact. I'm looking at a SERPA, but I have no idea what the different levels mean. Thoughts?

In short, the levels 1-3 correspond to the amount of moves it takes to draw a weapon.

Level 3 being the most secure.

    Flame away.

WMD is not known for simple answers.

That's just the way it was explained to me.

I've never used a SERPA, but I've heard sories about them being "jammy".
Saw a pic (in here) of one that had to be cut open.
I use a Safariland, but there's some great leather out there.

i've read about people shooting themselves in the leg after "unlocking" the serpas :dunno:

  6. And in 2001 the BBC reported that "Nearly 800 people a year are injured in accidents involving sponges and loofahs."

    Anecdotes without context are worthless.

there are reasons why some top schools don't allow them, as well.

Sorry, I don't want my finger pressing that near the trigger while drawing

All you have to do is take a look at the serpa locking mechanism and it's easy to see how a small piece of gravel could shut your holster down.

Gross motor movement > fine motor movement while stressed.

This is the same reason I prefer Krav Maga to traditional Eastern martial arts.

  12. Sure, and that's halfway to a real answer. Rather than just saying "I've heard people shot themselves" it would be much more useful to provide actual information.

I didn't want to post too many controversial posts after last night.
Felt like the drunk at the party this morning.

"I shit on your carpet? Really?"

Post 10 work better for you?

I don't remember where I saw it or I'd post the quote but I have seen where two or three instructors sent letters to Blackhawk in regards to people shooting themselves in the leg on the draw stroke and how the button was in direct line of the trigger (obviously, since it locks in the trigger guard) and, as far as I remember, the first was ignored or dismissed and the second one was dismissed as well, also their response seemed like they did not even acknowledge that there were past reports.

Luckily my carpet is brown. :mamoru:

  16. Yeah, it does. I don't own a serpa, and I've never used one, so I don't have any vested interest in this, but it's just stupid when people will make suggestions for or against something based on nothing but something they heard once, and they don't provide anything past that. That doesn't help the guy asking the question at all.

the way you have to press in the unlocking switch inadvertently put some peoples fingers into the trigger guard. doesnt take rocket science to figure that one out.

Don't really need a high retention holster for concealed carry, get something comfortable and that will retain the weapon through the body of the holster itself.

comptac fbi paddle or infidel. both holsters require for you to draw the weapon up in order to unholster, so no smash and grabs from the local thugs.

Except when they redesigned the holsters to minimize this risk. The release button now places your finger in the "register" position on the slide. I don't own one, but know several who do, including fellow instructors who like them.

That said, simple IWB carry for my, only place I'd think of retention is in the woods or fishing.

I already have the pistol. I'm just looking for a good holster. The one it came with will be fine until I find one I like.
