just finished cleaning it up and oiling it and the magazines today. yes i got popped in the face from not paying attention when removing the bottom of the magazine. canted front sight and a small amount of mag wobble with one of the supplied magazines. im probably going to refinish the wood to a lighter stain and ditch the magazines for some polymers.

what should i paint the metal with? there are some light scratches on it i guess from the magazines brushing against it during shipping.

Most of the paints out there need to be baked to cure so you'll have to make some sort of oven. I have used brownells aluma-hyde 2 (which doesn't require baking) with pretty good success. The only thing I dislike is its a pretty slow cure. I think they advise you let the parts hang untouched for like a week but I'd still use caution. I think the stuff I did with it was MUCH harder a month or two later than a month in.

Moly Resin, Gun Kote. Just use the stuff that you bake on.

If you're getting Polymer mags, don't get the cheap ones. Tapco ones are crap, pro mags are crap, and the Bulgarian ones with the bullets on them are crap. Bulgarian Waffle mags are great, but so are all of the military steel mags.

    Does your wife complain? :mamoru:

I tried boiling the cosmo off some milsurp rifle parts, but the wife did not appreciate me using one of her pots.

Also used to put my cleaned black powder pistol in the oven to dry, but the smell of heated CLP was not to her liking.

Pop it in and out a few more times, it'll work in. You could take a little metal off the top of the locking tab on the magazine but I've had some mags that I had to kick out, they were so fucking tight on a new build. They get easier with use.

No wife, the GF did find about a dozen AK mag's in my oven once :mamoru:

Just do it when they're not around and you'll be fine doesnt really leave any odors or anything behind they'll never know.

Get Bulgarian waffles. They are the best mags I have seen.

Yeah, Bulgarian waffel mags are the best polymer out there. They are a bit more, but well worth it over the other polymer options.
