    A few mosins:
All are Ish stamped, 3 - 1946's, 1 - 1947, 1 - 1948. All are numbers matching except one, which had the bolt ground down and the SN penciled on

The below pics are detailed pics of the above. Starting from the bottom gun and moving up:

    #5
Whoever was issued this gun must have had some strange habits, because there are 11ty repairs to it, yet no major scuff's or dings indicating that it fell under a truck or anything:

It's the original stock, I would assume, because it's got the SN stamped into the side of it.

    #4
Next one up the list, I'm guessing this stock was originally setup for a scope mount.

    #3
The stock looks like it's about to give out all the way. There's a few wooden dowels running up through the bottom to hold it in place, and it's actually pretty sturdy.

The handguard has been repaired, and looks pretty neat:

The other side of gun #3, with #2 showing:

The bottom part of the stock for #2 is held in with nails, and is kinda wobbly :hsugh:

I forsee a synthetic stock and a scout mount in it's future. It's the only gun that isnt completely #'s matching.

#1 is just a plain jane mosin. Nothing stands out about it.

    Another group shot:

So yeah, I got 3 solid shooters out of the lot. I'll have 4 once I replace Mr. Wobbly Stock. I'm not going to fuck with the gun that has 11ty stock repairs. It feels incredibly solid despite everything that's happened to it, but I dont want to chance shooting it :o I'll probably just clean the cosmo off it and leave it as-is, cause it's really kinda neat looking at all the repairs. I might throw the handguard that looks like it has stitches on it and call it a day. In all, they were totally worth $39 a piece

Oh yeah, there's plenty of cosmo in all the nooks and crannies, but that'll just have to wait until I get some time to clean them :o

none are counterbored, the rifling still looks good on all of em. three are shiny, one is full of cosmo to the point of not being able to see shit through it with a flashlight, and the other looks like it might be a little frosty, but it's got cosmo in it too. It'll probably be next week sometime before I can get a chance to really clean them inside and out

That's pretty damn cool. NONE counterbored...almost all the rearsenaled ones are counterbored. And that's neat that they re-used a 91/30 sniper stock cur down for an M44.

    Inventive little bastards.

Ridiculously inexpensive piece of history that is almost guaranteed to have seen combat service if dated '45 or before.

They are also fun to shoot.

Can you name another well-built, reliable bolt action rifle that shoots a round that powerful that you can get for under $100 all day long?

    No I can't.

They are interesting to look at, but I don't think I would buy one.

When Russia was being overwhelmed with Germans, and when they were packing up factories and moving them East over the mountains in order to continue production, they were not worried so much about the aesthetics of the zillions of rifles they were churning out :o
