They are required to scan in one of the states...I can't remember which one and I freaked out on a poor store clerk about it, but apparently it's the law.

Yep, but the PX has never asked for ID when purchasing anything other than alcohol.

I've not done the research on what meta-data is coded into the two different bar-codes on the I.D.s - there is no published privacy policy and I really have no desire to invalidate all the work I've done to get on all the do not call, do not mail, do not solicit lists.

Besides - it's not pulling out the ID - it's allowing my ID to be scanned for a purchase. This is an Orwellian response to illegal alcohol sales. We have to assume risk at some point for the procedures in place - There's no established policy on what they're going to do with the information gathered from my purchase. Are they tracking that I'm buying bud light every other night? Are they tracking that I made a purchase in Point A at 8:25 and Point B at 8:30; 30 miles away?

    His point is still valid.

I don't want companies tracking my purchases unless I give them permission - by signing up through a rewards program or other system.

I would never let someone scan my Mil ID or Driver's License.

I don't even let my Mil ID out of my physical control except at military gates.

What the hell does it really matter if someone is tracking your purchases and where you travel too? You obviously don't even know it's actually going on, so how as it truly affected your life, if in fact it is going on???

So if you're not important, you don't get privacy?
