VMM32.VXD is not in registry path error on bootup of windows 98.

I don't have a win98 cd but do have a windows 2000 cd to install with.

Problem is that his cd-rom is not recognizing the win.2000 cd on bootup. I checked the bios and the cd-rom is in the bootup sequence. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Or how I could fix the original problem? :wiggle:

Try "scanreg /restore" from a command prompt and restore an earlier version of your registry. You may also want to check out the links below, one is a MS support document that tells about the win98 problem, and the other is a page that describes how to rebuild the vmm32.vxd file. As to the computer not recognizing the win 2000 cd to boot off of it, I have ran into problems with that happening with older cd-rom drives. I am not sure why they don't start up and I usually have to use the floppies to boot off of. Also if the cd is a copy of the win2000 cd sometimes the boot sector doesn't copy over correctly.
