So I picked up a new saiga 7.62x39 at a LGS for $360. Came with a 10 and I bought a 30 round mag. Also bought 200 rounds of 7.62. Didnt think the price was too shabby given the times....

Now my questions is what do I need to convert it to pistol grip/AK stock? How hard of a process is it?

Also do they accept standard AK mags or do you have to buy siaga specific mags?

    Thanks

I used kvar for the stock, grip, trigger group, and PG but and bolt.

I bought the bullet guide from dinzag arms.

There is also a youtube on how to do it as well. It is a little different from the website though because the website reuses the shepherd's hook while the youtube guy puts in a axis pin retainer plate.

Even though the kvar trigger group is excellent I suggest to just get the tapco g2 group instead because then you won't have to file down the disconnector in order to get the safety to come off so you can put the retainer plate in.

    Youtube presentation begins HERE.

Wow looks good. Looks a little more in depth than I thought it would be....

What companies out there will do the conversion for you and how much do they charge?

I don't know. I did all the shit myself. :o

Seriously though it is probably better for you to take the time and effort to DIY so you know it was done right. I've heard reports of people getting theirs back just to have the bullet guide fly out of the gun after a few mags because the cheap-ass company used JB weld to put it in instead of properly screwing it in.

I saw an already converted Saiga for $619 at my local gun store. :sad2:

It was converted by some place called Tennessee Arms.

In order to get the thing to take regular AK mags all you have to do is file down the mag catch a little. Easy to do but make sure you don't file it down too much. File it just enough to let the mag click in snugly. File.

I told a buddy he could use his Mosin for deer hunting this year and he laughed at me. He didn't believe me. :ugh:
Apparently his isn't very accurate and the recoil scares him.

Do you know how easy or difficult to put a scope on a mosin?

Not a clue. But I'm planning on ordering a 91/30 here real soon.
Sure would love one of them Mosin sniper rifles... but they're like $400+, and I don't care to spend that much on a Mosin right now.

Just google 922(r) and you'll get a list of everything you need to replace. I don't know how saigas are but here's what I did on my AK

    Tapco FCG (3 parts)
    Tapco gas piston (1 part)
    US Pistol grip (1 part)

Done and done, don't have to fuck with mag followers or anything like that.
