My new Kershaw Blackout, w/spring assist. This is such a  knife. Sorry it's not a gun, but if everything goes well I will be posting up pics of the new XD pretty soon. :x:

Yeah, I love it. Have been playing with it all day, and am pretty damn quick with it. Picked it up for $60 at the Gun & Knife show today.

...and as an added bonus this weekend, some lady my dad knows gave him a SKS that had been sitting around in her house for years. The only thing that sucks is that it has one of those shitty plastic stocks on it. Getting a wood stock this week I think.

It's really flimsy. I do have a Ken Onion Chive which I like very much.

I dont have a link as of now, but I did see a copy of what looked to be the letter stating it.

I heard about it on Sat. at the Pontiac Silverdome gun show, from a good friend of mine who had a booth there. He said it was still kinda hush hush, but that the word was spreading fast.

I have a blackout. The worst folder I've ever had, and dangerous to boot.

    Other than that, it's good.

I'll start at the top: The handle is made of plastic. That should be your first indicator of a bad knife. If your hands are wet, greasy, dry, moist, soft, calloused, or otherwise attached to your arms, you will lose your grip on this knife. Losing grip on a knife is bad juju. It needs to be made of a material and texture conducive to gripping, and that smooth plastic is NOT it, no matter how they "texture" it. Second, that plastic handle is held together with an adhesive or a heat-seam or something. It will split down the back of the knife. Also bad juju. I use a knife as a tool, which means that occasional twisting or prying may be required by it. Do not do this with the Blackout. The handle will split, the blade will be able to twist between the handle material, and the liner lock will fail, to the dismay of your severed fingers. It happened to me, and I nearly lost a digit. This knife is a poor choice, even if it's cheap. Take it back, unused, and exchange for something else, or trade up.

My recommendations within the Kershaw Ken Onion assisted-opening line are the Avalanche (of which I've owned two and lost one) or the Blur. I own the "Tactical" Blur, which has a tanto point, which I really like. I also prefer serrated knives, for their utility in cutting things, and because I can get splinters out with the serrations. The "Tactical" Blur was $54 or so at WalMart.

Another cheap, but good, knife to use as a beater is the Gerber Ranger series. They're similar in size to the blackout, but far better. Gerber also has some assisted opening stuff now.
