My new HP notebook has arrived :)

I know I need to do a clean install of XP to get all the BS off of it. What other things do I need to install to make sure that my wireless security, DVD burning, etc... are all up to snuff?

if it's brand new i see no reason on doing that. You could probably just unistall any unneccesary programs and be on your way.

If you must do a fresh install just make sure you have the driver cd that came w/ the notebook. after you install XP if something doesn't work or isn't recognized either do windows update to see if they have a driver or use the cd. It should contain the software / drivers for the touchpad, wireless card, usb, etc etc.

Well, there's not all that much extra shit on it, I guess. I installed AdAware, Spybot, FireFox and a pop-up stopper last night. I also got the wireless network up and running.

    It's night and day going from a 366MHz Celeron to a 2.4 GHz P4 :eek3:

Make sure before you put that thing online you turn on the XP firewall fully or install a thrid party firewall, then go get all the latest patches.
If you don't, you'll get blaster before you can bat an eye

Since it's an HP, you should be able to get all of the drivers from their website too.

No idea. The fans on mine are really quiet. The DVD drive is about 20 times louder than the fans.
