Turned my m16a4 in today. It was the last day my division uses it.
We switched completely over to the Tavor.
    Picture below.

First impression. New gun is lighter by almost half! Doesnt jam. Less recoil but more impact damage. Smaller!

First night of use will be tuesday. stay tuned.

    Shoots NATO 5.56mm rounds.
    and rate is 750-900 RPM!

 at first glance, it kind of reminded me of a P90 for some reason.

does it not have iron sights? it reminds me of the L81, which is a piece of crap. i hope your issue weapon isn't. why did the IDF start switching?

oh, and how much does 1,200 of IMI M193 cost to you guys over there?

:coold: i've heard really good things about the Tavor.

And rumors they're setting up shop to build them in the US too. Which means after Sept'04, maybe... :x:

Keep a log of your impressions for us.

It has a laser sight attachment and an allow sight.. I doubt I will ever carry the laser sight.. maybe in my gear bag..

They started switching bc basically the M16 is a piece of shit :) Jams often in dusty conditions etc.. and its too big

we get 4800 rounds a week. So for me that would be nothing.. To buy it off the shelf is probably $40 for 300

Hopefully it works good for ya'll :bigthumb: I know the IDF normally makes pretty good decisions on weapons though. I don't like bullpup designs at all, it's a pain to change magazines quickly, and they just don't feel right. I shot the British SA80 (which is well known as a POS anyway) and there is no way I would take a bullpup over a standard design like the M-16/M-4

used 100 rounds today.. Quite nice! Accuracy is dead on.. only 1 bullet didnt hit the target. only 4 didnt hit inside the 6' circle...

Didnt try change magazines fast.. probably should do that at some point in time..

shit, if i had two cases a week of M193, i'd be in heaven. hell, one case, or half of that, per week, and i'd be in heaven. i'm finishing off this case of my IMI, then i'm going to buy another 1200 rd. case from Botach, and put that away, and buy a case of wolf for practice. i wish i could feed my AR like that here.

$160 for a case of 1200 is a damn good price, since you don't have to pay shipping or anything like that. it costs us $189 for that, shipped. that, and the trouble of talking to israeli ladies that don't speak much english.

It is detachable and I have mine detached.. Its a little clumsy and I am accurate enough for what usually carrying it.

I havent been told of any add ons but I am not the person who would carry them.

There is a silencer thats attachable.. I like that.. ALOT!

So the verdict.. Its 5 am And I got home an hour ago.. Showered and shaved..
    Watched some TV.

    Mythoughts.
the gun has now been used in combat. When pinned down it really showed its force! Usually grenades would have been used. But with 700 shots in a minute and 100 shot magazines. This wasnt needed.

The cover fire/ suppressing fire is AMAZING! It puts an M60 to shame!

Complaints ? Feels a bit too light.
Compliments ? Everything you can imagine.. If they try give me an M16 I'll quit!

How in the hell do you attach an M203 to that thing?

And I also wanted to share that I saw a couple of the security guys from the Israeli Consulate here in Houston at the shooting range. For some reason I never believed that the Israelis actually instructed themselves to not have a round chambered. I saw them run a drill and they shot DAMN fast. I mean really quick probably on par with a rate-reduced uzi. From 3-5 yards they engaged 4 targets each with 3 rounds, then tactical reloaded and but 2 more in each. It took maybe 6-7 seconds including reload. It was quite extraordinary. They were in the -1, and -2 (if it was an IDPA target) area with a bunch of shots but they definatley can dispach a threat pretty quick even if they have to rack the slide after drawing.

only in east jerusalem will soldiers walk around with bullets chambered. Nor even in Gaza/Jenin does anyone chamber a round.
