What are some good diagnostic/repair utilities for the Mac? Is Norton as awful and bloated for the Mac as it has been for the PC ever since Win95 came out? How about the antivirus?

What are you looking for in repair?

Cocktail is a good open source clean up tool for your Mac.
I've heard good things about Drive X for filesystem and drive issues.
    Antivirus? What's a virus?

There are a lot of good tools built in. Make sure you have a journaled filesystem enabled (check /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) and there should be a good amount of tools in there.

I try to run Cocktail every month.

No, Norton's a pretty good program. None of the disk utilities are perfect, though. You'll fix things with one that others can't, and vice versa.

I believe Norton to be the worst Utility ever. Causes nothing but more problems. Try using Disk Warrior or Tech Tool.

hehe just like on the PC side. Norton rocked in the DOS days but NU for Win95 was shit and its been downhill ever since.
