  1. im thinking about buying an ipod and want some decent headphones to go with them, so what is a good sounding pair for $100 or less?

I think the sony V6 (I think thats the name), Grado sr-80, and Sennheiser hd-280 pros are all within their range. See if you can audition any of those.

An iPod cannot power the SR-80's properly.

I had them, sounded really muddy.

    Returned them for the SR-60's.

    Sound better off the iPod.

Everyone I know recommends an amp with any Grado's except the SR-60's and RS1's.

Get the SR-60's, most everyone will agree that they're the best headphones for under $100 and they have a low enough impedence to be driven by a portable.

  5. where is the best place to buy them?

I'm personally a fan of www.headphone.com because they have a great informative site about all things headphone related, as well as make great headphone amps and shit.

    They're $69.00

An iPod should have enough power for the sr-80's unless you need it really loud.

I ran my friend's sr-125's off my SOUNDCARD (not a good one either) and it had plenty of output.

Hes got a headroom amplifier too, and just plugs them into his receiver, because it has plenty of power.
