I'm interested in getting a M1 (not Garand, in 7.62X51 chambering, magazine fed). Where is a good place to look for them, and what is a reasonable price? I like the Springfields, but $1300 is just way to far out of my range.

    Chicom and part it out

Springfields quality suffers from my understanding, you'd prolly be better off dropping 700 on a chicom and building it to your specs, otherwise LRB or Fulton are the way to go, but its pricy eitherway

Secondly people would prolly understand what your looking for a lil better if you call it an m1a or m14, you'd prolly also have better results searching google using m14

arfcom has a pretty decent subforum for m14's and i would suggest reading up, esp if you want a decent m14, we're talking a 2000 dollar + investment

EDIT: go to a gunshow and see if you can find a chicom, thats the only way your gonna find an m14 for under 1300

Oh yeah, M14 replica is what I'm wanting. I'll check out arf.com, I didn't know they had a M1a/M14 subforum.

Just think, by handling that rifle you're basically fingering Marilyn Monroe.

How many people can say they've done that?

you can get them from CMP. its luck of the draw, but people were getting xx,xxx serial # SA receivers, and they just got in 118,000 more M1's, so i'm sure there will be a few low #'d ones in there, just have to go to the south or north stores and get lucky, but its possible.

oh and that garand is cool, I"m sure Lee Harvey Oswalds' garand would catch a similar high price.
