My M1 Garand should be back in a week or two and I want a good case for it.

Something that I can cut the foam out to have it fit perfectly in there with maybe some room for some extra stuff.

    Who makes good cases?

They have large aluminum framed locking cases at Academy I like that are around $100. No clue on the brand but they look like they'd provide some good protection to the rifle. They're pretty large and bulky though.

I can vouch for that Academy case. My FAL was in one and came out of the back of a truck (okay, it was a golf cart) at about 20mph (did I mention it was a modded golf cart) on a broken up asphalt road. The case took one hell of a fucking hit and tumble and only took some scratches. Rifle was nice and snug :)

Is it the one w/ the metal rod that slides across the front latches and you can use a pad lock to lock it?

Nope it's the big aluminum one. It comes in either clear anodized or camo. Has a combination lock on each latch.

I think I'd get tired of those latches though.

Why? You don't have to lock them if you don't want to.

Those kinds just seem cheap to me.

Next time I'm at Academy I'm going to take a look at the case I've eyeing and snag a pic. It seems to be built really solid so it can take some abuse before my rifle would take damage.
