Good Port Scanner for Linux??!!

    thanks alot but i am new to linux and installing software has probably been the most frusturating part. can anybody walk me through installation process for nmap?

    can be very easy depending on distro....

    but that aside for the time being, it is fairly consistant across distros if you download the tar

    try this as root:

    mkdir /usr/src/nmap

    tar -xvf <path of nmap tar> -C /usr/src/nmap

    ./configure

    make && make install


    if you happen to download a tar.gz use tar -xvzf or if you download a bzipped file use j instead of z
