I've got probably around 300 pictures that I want to put online in somesort of gallery for friends and family to view, and I haven't no clue which program is best for this. So help me out OT.

I was something where they can click thumbnails and it'll enlarge them, slideshow (and settings - length for each pic and more), add captions would be cool, and anything else needed online.

I know little about setting this up on a site, but I've got a dreamhost package (the $10 package, so whatever that has with it) and I need something I can host on there with a database or whatever I would need to setup. Something easy to setup would be cool, since I don't know a whole lot about it.

Hopefully something free or 'free', or then just cheap price-wise.
I like simple looks, but yet modern, not like flickr or coppermine, they have an old look to them but I look new and trendy, but easy to use for people viewing the pictures.

So what are the options people?

With dreamhost, you can do the one-click install of the Gallery program. It's PHP based.

Do you know how good it is, and/or have a link to a dreamhost gallery?

    I like that.
Can you not do the camera deal - where it displays the camera information and instead do a caption? Also, is that free? And what is exif?

Also, any other cool options for any galleries?

yeah having it display the camera data is an option (exif is the name for the camera data). Captions are easy to do as well, just drop a .txt file in the directory the photo is in with the same name

I use smugmug. You can customize the look and lyout, and hs all the options you mentioned above. It does cost $, but not much at all. I'm quite satisfied. See my site for examples.
