I'm in school down in NOLA and I'm having some trouble with AT&T wireless down there. Anyone living in the NOLA area that can recommend something else?

your best bet is to ask around and see what other people have and their experiences with it in that area

I have at&t gsm. have had no problems in the city or on the northshore with it except in really rural areas.

Do you have tdma or gsm, they are different systems, i think one will work where the other won't.

I am usually uptown or met. road when I am over there, have not had any problems. Stay away from sprint, all cdma for that matter, but sprint was especially bad when I had them.

cingular gsm is the same system as at&t since the merge so i dont think you will gain anything with them.

I have had company here and I love my at&t gsm.

at&t gsm has more options than any other company with EDGE and UMTS. I'd go with it

I live in New Orleans and I've been a T-Mobile customer for years. I've had good luck with 'em.

I'd go with the ole tin cans and string if I were you.

Dont have to worry about battery life.

Range can be a problem if you cheap out on the string though. Go for the longest one you can find.

New Orleans is going to be tough for any mobile provider since most of it is water and swamp land and what not. Hard to place towers. As someone said earlier, just ask around. :)
