So I just reinstalled vista home premium that came preinstalled on my laptop. I used a OEM Vista 32bit dvd and the OEM license that is printed on the side of the laptop, and guess what happens?

The key is not valid and MS says I need to buy Vista. Jesus. Gotta call them up and hopefully get this resolved.

The fuck is the deal here, I guess MS is now rejecting their own keys?

Edit- just googled this, and found tons of others with the same problem. The key printed on the laptop will not pass validation.

as you found out, the key printed on the sticker is not the license key.

that you have to pull the key from the registry. or had to...

Hmmm, i was unaware they stopped putting the key on the COA sticker. Figured it was like XP or whatever.

Why do they do that, so passerbys cant just write the key down?

Call them up, answer a couple basic questions and they will activate it for you

It isnt refused, it is Microsoft's shitty way of activating after some stupid update. At work, we image computers and before any service packs, we had no issue activating windows with the OEM key on the tag, but now we end up fucking calling every time.
