Do any of you have good introductory messages to send to someone your interested in, on a dating website ?
Or even any tips ? Such as not coming off too strong, or needy ?
I personally feel that by sending the first message, I kinda give my power away. The girl knows that I'm interested in her and there's no chase anymore, so loses interest. Of course I understand that there may also be many others factors due to which she may have chosen not to respond back.

do not send carpetbombing emails to everyone. read each persons profile and comment specifically on 2 or 3 of her interests. for instance, if she likes movies, ask her if she's seen any good ones lately, then slip in what recent movies you've seen and how good/bad it was. get the conversation casual, interesting and flowing.

girls like guys who show some effort.

Make it short and sweet. Introduce yourself, comment on a couple things you liked about her profile, and ask a simple question. That's it.

    Example:

Hey beautiful, my name is Joe. I saw in your profile that you like the Jenny Owen Youngs. I'm a fan of hers myself and even saw her in concert last year. I also noticed that one of your hobbies is glass blowing. That's pretty cool. What kind of things do you make?

Online dating is fantastic if you are a girl. Sucks if you are a guy.

Here is a message I sent to one girl whose quick catch phrase was "Cookie Monster"

Comments ? Critique ? If I met a girl in person for the first time, and she told me that she liked video games, this is what I think I'd say - just general b.s. about video games. I figured I'd take the same approach online, but she obviously didn't reply back :wtc:

think of every single guy in a bar that could hold 1000 people, asking 1 girl out at the same time.

now try to stand out in that crowd.

    Sums it up perfectly.

My friend signed up to a site for a laugh and she had 7 friend requests before she had even finished writing a bio or even uploading pictures

Oh dear god. The idea was decent, but you fail at being unique. If a girl says she likes video games she gets a FUCK TON of guys saying exactly what you just said. The goal is to stand out.

    :werd:

So much easier to just log off your computer and go out and breath fresh air and just talk to the first girl you see.

Yea, I will come in and say this is truth. You live in the bay area, as I do, and if you are on OK cupid chances are you've prob messaged me.

99.9% of the messages I get are just about video games. And like you, most of those dudes had played video games "seriously" at one time, but are now unable.

    And to critique your post:
    1. You tried to be funny when it clearly wasn't especially if its something she already has to know about you for her to get the joke.
    2. Every girl that plays games know there are not many of us, we get hounded CONSTANTLY about it. I am afraid to speak on vent because of things that have happened, because guys take it to an extreme.
    3. Why would someone care right off the bat what kind of old games you play? It's like you are trying to show how "cool" you are for playing them.
    4. You said you told her about you, when in reality all you talked about was video games.

Here are a few messages I have received:

Yea, I guess it's a good opener, but then most of the guys just talk about video games. And it gets very boring. Most guys can not keep a conversation going either. I don't bother to reply to anyone anymore because its all the same.

There are more of you than you think you are, and you all say this exact same thing. :mamoru:

So, I guess it's not just the guys that aren't unique. :o

There are a ton of female gamers, I agree.

There aren't a ton of them that look exceptionally good, well, depending on your judgement obviously.

My brother dated a female gamer while him and I played professionally, she was a total cutie, but the rest of her team was total fail.

And for the record, BD would be considered 'exceptionally good looking'.

There are lots of girls that play games, yes, but the amount isn't equivalent to the amount of guys that play games. Would that it were...

And it really depends on if you count girls that play silly things like, the sims 3 and their nintendo ds cake mania games. Those really aren't "gamer girls" in my eyes.

Girls are still a huge minority in video games, if they were not, there would not be a huge uproar every time a guy finds one.

Thanks for the comments guys. I now realize that I probably came off really dumb. The major points I've gotten so far are:
1)Mention/talk about something from her profile
2)She is probably bombarded with millions of messages so be unique.

The first one is easy, the second one isn't so much. What 'unique' messages would you guys write to a girl who says she's into video games ? I'm not going to copy your ideas (lol), but maybe it'll inspire me for other topics.
