Good DVD making program??

    i have a dvd burner coming in tomorrow morning and i realized i dont know anything about how to make a dvd.

    can someone tell me a good program i can get.
    im basically looking to make a menu with lets say, all the episodes of heroes which are avi files on to dvd.

    so basically im looking for something like the following extensions to dvd..

    avi,mpg,mov, you know, all the computer movie extensions. thanks! :)

    With your burner you might get something included.
    However for something basic, Nero Vision
    For something complex and lets you go into some detail with tons of options/features adobe Encore DVD, couple that with Photoshop to edit your menus on the fly

    ok... ill check them out.. thanks.. any other suggestions too? how long does making a dvd actually take anyways.. ?

    To encode the video from whatever format, that mostly depends on the speed of your CPU. That takes the longest.
    Once it's encoded, it'll go pretty quickly.

    For burning the DVD; depends on the speed of your burner and the speed of the media. All of my DVDRs are 8x and it takes just under 10mins to burn 4+GB.

    so im using adobe encore right now.. how come every program im using is saying the avi file i have the resolution is too small it has to be a certain size to format it or something?

    Ulead DVD factory is really good. I've been using it for about 6 months now and it will accept most video formats and burns DVDs that will play on (nearly) all DVD players. There's always some exceptions though

    convertxtodvd should work well for you, even makes a menu.
