I like the older versions where you could do multiple drives one after the other but WinXP's is ridiculous.

    Any suggestions?

the one included in norton systemworks is pretty good, and will do what you need.

O&O Defrag... defrag all drives / partitions simultaneously. Checks for defragmentation every x days and can be configured to only use x% of the processor time.

someone correct me if im way off here, but i think its because it moves files that are used more often to where they can be accessed quicker. other defragers just make the files contiguous. i have no idea if this actually affects performance, and i still prefer diskeeper.

Correct. Windows defrag is only concerned about making the files contiguous at the front of the drive whereas some other packages offer choices such as putting often used files first for slightly faster access. The end result being that if you defrag with one package then analysis with another the results could be totally different.
