Just picked up an XTi w/ an EFS 17-85 f/4-5/6 lense and was wondering what would be a good book for someone whose new to the whole photography thing. I've been doing a ton of reading online but am looking for something I can go out and purchase.

    Thanks!

Awesome book for beginners. HUGE amount of examples of everything and relatively up to date for Digitals ( a few years old). about the same amount of pictures as text and covers everything from basic photography theory (aperture, film speed, shutter speeds) to composition etc

someone posted some downloadable links a while back and there was some good stuff in there. I haven't even had a chance to glance through them yet.

I broke down and bought my first "dummies" book when I picked up my camera. I bought "Digital SLR Cameras & Photography for Dummies" (ISBN 0-7645-9803-1). yep, it's true:rofl:. I laugh at myself for doing it, but I've learned a lot of stuff about cameras and the pictures etc.
