I'm looking for a nice plain 1911 platform to build on. I've been looking at the Springfield GI. I'd like to spend around $400-500 on it, And have a good solid base to build on. Nothing too fancy, Nothing competition worthy or anything. Just a nice accurate, solid feeling .45.

    Suggestions?

    4-500?

i dont think that can be done, you might find something at a gunshow but it'll probably be a piece of shit

Not for the entire build. Just for the gun. Then who knows what I'll sink into it.

What are you talking about? for $500 you can get a Springer GI that makes an excellent base gun. Also Norinco's can be found in that range, as can RIA's.

I bought my GI45 for $389 at a local shop. If I decide to build up another one instead of buying a Springfield Loaded I will probably go with an RIA.

I paid $500 for my Colt. I'm sure I could have gotten one cheaper, but I didn't really care at the time.

It's a mil-spec gun, anything that is a universal part will fit it.

I got mine for about $400 out the door i think

Great build gun, but some USGI parts will require fitting, as it isn't a perfect mil spec gun. Do it.
