A potential deal between Takanori Gomi and the UFC has fallen through, FiveOuncesOfPain.com (www.FiveOuncesOfPain.com) has learned.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com first became aware of the story when a source close to Frankie Edgar revealed that the lightweight contender had been offered and accepted a potential bout vs. Gomi. The fight fell through after the UFC was unable to secure a contract with PRIDE’s final reigning lightweight champion.

There is no word as to why a deal with Gomi was unable to be completed and whether there’s a chance that talks between both sides will resume in the future.

    a monopoly is a business

and if they truly were a monopoly, wouldn't they have Gomi, Fedor, and the rest of the crew?

    Truth.

If you can't sign them, its not always your fault.

Personally, if I were Dana I would have told Fedor to suck my flaccid dick with everything he wanted in his contract.

Cause they ARE buying all the competition and ARE controlling high level MMA.

    How's that Hoss?

Dana's contract was just as fucking insane as his, if not more.

  14. Monopoly is a spectrum, not a rigid classification. UFC has strong monopoly power, even if it isn't a perfect monopoly.

Just like microsoft. Apple exists, but Microsoft still controls the market.

I would maybe havn't bent on the sambo thing.

But having a $1,000,000 PER FIGHT asset possibly being beaten by another orgs fighter?

    FUCK THAT BULLSHIT.

Fighters aren't people, they are assets to a company.

Just like I am an asset to my company.

Do you think they would let me go work for Dupont or kronex?

Hell no, they would fire THEN sue me.

Just because this is a sport and hobby for you, doesn't mean its not a job for someone else.

it's a contract. they deem that fighting in other orgs would be a conflict of interest, as any other company would

sucks for the fans, but makes complete sense for the business

  20. Of course you're right here, with the exception that non-compete clauses have to be enforceable and reasonable.

Thinking about it though, it doesn't make sense with the way UFC promotes their fights though, given that they don't promote fighters as superheros like pride, but instead just build up individual headlining fights.

If they're willing to cut guys loose over contract squabbles (Tito, Arlovski, Randy, etc) why not put together some superfights just to do big one-time shows.

I'd go with organization that treated me more like a person than an asset which is why some notable fighters aren't signing with the UFC.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't be treated like people, I'm saying at the end of the day they are assets.

    Fedors contract demands were unreasonable.

His 2 main catches to the UFC's contract where that he couldn't do combat sambo matches and he couldn't fight in other orgs.

The other orgs thing came to play because Fedor wanted to be allowed to fight in Russia in any org that had an event there.

    Dont remember the source.
