Ok, I'm getting a new computer and putting it up stairs.

What do I need to get so that I can use internet up there?

Assuming you already have cable or DSL and an existing computer wired to the modem, you need a 4 port switch with a router and a wireless access point like this. For the computer upstairs you need a wireless network adapter. If its a laptop, you can get one built in or add one like this. If its a desktop, you can install either a USB adapter like this (has the advantage that you can move it around to improve signal) or a PCI one like this.

It depends on exactly what you need to buy. My links have prices on them.

Hmm.. my main question is.. will I have any problems with it? I heard from some people that it would disconnect on them.

all you need is a router with wireless, and a wireless pci card. you can get both for under $100. your internet won't go down, but there's a chance you may lose your wireless connection if you turn on your microwave or use a 2.4GHz cordless phone.

There is a deal on Amazon right now for the Linksys 802.11b/g router and pcmcia card for $108. Plus you get a $10 mail in rebate on both and a $20 Amazon gift certificate. That puts the final price at about $70.

Of course the pcmcia card is only good if you are getting a laptop.
