I'm going for 3 weeks in the South Island of New Zealand trekking (they call it tramping). The longest trek will be 55 miles / 8 days.

Here is the photo gear I have, trying to keep relatively light even though it's already really heavy.

    - Nikon D80
    - 4 batteries
    - 5 sd cards 2GB
    - Nikon 18-200VR
    - Sigma 10-20
    - Polarizing filter with step (to use on both lenses)
    - UV filter on both lenses
    - Kata E-702 Rain Bag (because we'll get rain in the.. rainforest)
    - Manfrotto 209 mini tripod
    - Cleaning solution and pads
    - Nikon remote trigger

I am not bringing my flash because it's too heavy and takes a lot of batteries. Most picture will be of landscapes so no need for backfilling, I'll use the D80 flash and do snapshots for indoors...

    Anything I forgot? Any suggestions?

Aint no rain forest here in the South Island.... What walks are you doing? Was thinking of going out to Lake Sumner area to tramp/camp to take photos for a couple of weeks.

buy the Battery Grip for the D80. it has a thing where you can put AA's into it if your rechargeable runs out of power
